Objectives The learning objectives of this course and the logistics of our own class dictate that we compile much of our own information for research, study, and analysis. This resource is intended to provide a place to compile and organize the essential knowledge and source material for 20th Century Topics. As a play on the name of the site, we are going to be creating an “IB History Wikipedia” of sorts. In keeping with the expectations of the IB, however, you are to do much more than provide basic factual information. Your contributions to this site should provide the basic history, but also elements of critical analysis, thoughtful assessment of greater significance, historiography, and leads to resources for further investigation. The ultimate goal is to have a resource for each of you that, by the end of the year, can stand as the only thing you need to review for the IB Exams.
Expectations
The material you post here is for your own academic growth and that of your comrades, who are depending on you to provide sufficient information for the topics that they are not researching themselves. Commit yourself to providing quality material for this site.
Material posted on this site will be marked to varying degrees. In some instances you will receive individual marks, and in some instances group grades will be awarded. Keep in mind that each of your posts are accounted for, so I am monitoring what you are actually contributing.
Though it hardly needs to be said again, keep in mind that you are in the second year of a university-level program. I expect that kind of quality!
Rules of copyright and plagiarism apply. Cite as necessary, be mindful of whether material is able to be used for educational purposes, and forget you ever learned how to copy and paste.
Ground Rules
Remember that wikis only allow one person to contribute to a page at a time. If you try to post material and someone else who is doing the same has logged in to edit the page before you it will not accept your post. Be sure you have backed up all of your material so that if this happens you can try again later.
Be cognizant of space limitations: 20 MB per page and 2 GB for the entire site. Manage your space-intensive content accordingly, and utilize external links, hyperlinks, and the like when possible.
Stay out of others’ yards! Do not alter any content that is not your own. Maintain your academic integrity, and show proper respect to the intellectual property of others.
